ABOUT US

This is my reptile website and I would like to help all new beginners wishing to become reptile pet owners. I will happily assist and answer any questions that you may have about reptiles. I will also assist in helping you build a safe and easy care environment for your reptile.

For The Beginner

Reptiles  make great pets, but sometimes beginners become overwhelmed when they do not account for how expensive and difficult it is to care for reptiles are. Lack of information given to beginners or just not asking the right questions, new pet owners go home from pet stores with incomplete and lack of information on proper care of their reptiles so they end up unprepared when they find out what it really takes to care for their pets.

For beginners I would recommend on doing your homework first on the reptile of your choice. Your research should include a proper diet and environmental needs for your reptile of choice. I would recommend that beginners start with the following reptiles:

Geckos

The most common lizard found in pet stores, is Geckos (Leopard) these are simple reptiles for beginners they are small and very easy to care for. The environment is a 15-20 gallon tank and should be big enough for them since they are night dwellers (nocturnal), they do not need any special lighting equipment such as UVA/UVB. They like to eat insects and vegetables but are commonly fed crickets.

Bearded Dragon

The most interesting of the reptiles and require more care than the Gecko. They can average in size from 12-24 inches. They live in the desert so because of that they will need high temperatures added to their environment, they need UVA and UVB light and is mandatory that you give them this light. The dragons are fun to watch while they hunt when fed, easy to tame and encourage you to handle them so they become tame.

Corn Snakes

These are beautiful snakes; they are calm and are very easy to care for. When fully grown they reach anywhere from 3-5 feet in length and can live up to 10 years or more. Corn snakes are sneaky and excellent at escaping so make sure your snake enclosure has a lid and place some weight on it.

Ball Python

Owners for Ball Pythons must be willing to spend some extra money as they are fed whole mice or rats I would recommend that they are prekilled. The one good thing of owning a snake is they only need to eat once a week so they can be left on their own for a few days without the need for UVA/UVB lights.

A constricting snake such as the Ball Python can reach the size of 3-6 feet and is usually quite calm and easy to care for. Their are known for refusing to eat is normal, so owners should be careful in finding a healthy bred ball python you may even want to ask the breeder to show you a feeding to make sure the snake will eat the dead mice or rat.

 Turtles

They are popular with kids but they seem to become to bored with them and do not play or give them the attention that they need. Turtles need a lot of commitment and a great deal of preparation, especially the environmental needs of the turtle. They can become very large and also very messy. So please before deciding on a turtle make sure that you have what it takes to care for them.
